Jogi is an Indian Hindi language film that was released on 16 September 2022 on Netflix. The film is directed by Ali Abbas Zafar starring Dilijit Dosanjh, Amyra Dastur, and Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub and Hiten Tejwani as the main lead actors in the movie.
Premise
The story revolves around the riots that took place in 1980s in India and follow around three friends Joginder aka Jogi who is a Sikh, Ravinder Chauta who is a Hindu and Kaleem Ansari who is a Muslim come together in a noble yet dangerous way to save the lives of hundreds of their people. The film begins with Jogi and his family going about their daily lives but suddenly they are interrupted by disturbing news of Indira Gandhi’s assassination which has led to outrage and hatred against Sikhs which has resulted in the massacre of people from the community. Jogi rather than being self-centred or only being concerned about his saving family goes and helps hundreds of people’s lives by taking his childhood friends help. Jogi faces so many obstacles from counsellor Tejpal Arora who is the main instigator of the riots in East Delhi and Laali Katyal who is a police inspector who is assisting him in carrying out his plan.

Director Ali Abbas Zafar has depicted a storyline that centres around the horrific incidents that took place in the 1980s which expresses the people’s sufferings and their emotional stories which are moving. The writers have crafted a script that spends time establishing the characters which give the viewers a dramatic impact and urges them to watch the film. The cinematography and the editing are quite good and enhance the premise and the action sequences and choreography are quite top-notch. The background score and the music by Julius Packiam gravitate toward the plot as well. Ali Abbas Zafar has done a great job where he chose to pause the violence and portray bloodied corpses and burning men because he needed the audience to understand the seriousness of the situation…

Overall, the film is a decent watch as it has seamlessly woven moments of tragedy, high drama and action sequences which result in a heart-moving tale that piques the interest of the viewers watching the film. The film swirls around the elements of humanity and friendship which leaves you with a heart full of emotions. Every character in the film ensures that there is an emotional curve in their performances which creates an impact that results in intricate writing of riveting drama.
